How sad do I look.......

So I just had some free time this morning to work on my garden. The princess had been here for just over a week, and I just couldn't bring myself to take her out in the dry poky grass and very bright sun. So I got up this morning and was out pulling weeds to in a small area, very small area for the tiny garden. My back was hurting, the sun screen was burning my face, the temperature was pleasant. After pulling all the weeds that I could, I soaked down the harder ones that I hadn't been able to get out.

Next door there is a young guy in his 20's with a bobcat clearing the neighbors yard. He's been taking all the stuff out of their yard and behind mine to the empty lot. We had smiled and waved, because we were both out doing yard work. Again, my area I was clearing is maybe 4' by 5'. I went in to pull some of the harder weeds now that they had soaked in the water, I got one or two then I went for a hard one. I put all my weight into it, and pulled. It broke in half and the very thick very deep root stayed in the ground. Then I felt it, the pain in my neck. Yesterday was my 6 month anniversary of my surgery. I went to the doctor and he told me to be very careful with my neck or I would be back in in just a few years. Plus I have a bone spur right about the plate in my neck. The pain reminded my that what I was doing wasn't a good idea. I sat down in the grass and waited for the pain to pass. It wasn't passing, so I laid down on the ground. The ground was even, and I had my arms stretched all of the way out and my neck was feeling a little better. All of the sudden I heard the bobcat turn off, and thought, oh no! I lifted my head up quick and the kid was starting to jump off the bobcat. He looked at me and yelled "are you OK!"

I just thought, "how sad do I look, that he was so scared"? I told him I was fine, but I had a bad neck and I had kind of hurt it, so i was just resting it. He said, "OK you really scared me."
I told him, "Thank you for caring".

More of the getting old, is the pits. If I was twenty laying in the grass nobody would care:-)

oh no!!!! I'd like to think he'd be just as concerned if not more so if you were twenty and collapsed into the grass :)
Good for you for gardening. I need to get on that here at my new house and make it look nice!

Okay, is it so bad that I am having a good laugh. I am sorry you were in pain, but what a funny story! Bridgette is coming on Sunday, when can we come and see you?

Actually, I think it's so terribly cool that that kid's first impulse was to help you. I love that about this area - the way people seem to look out for each other. But that happens everywhere - still, you witnessed a great thing, a person serving another person, a stranger. Actually, I think it's a pretty moving story.
