16 and strep throat.......
Nathan came home from school on Thursday and didn't feel very good. He was running a slight fever I just had him rest. I am a little old fashioned and believe if you have a fever your body is working. You have a fever because your body is trying to burn out what ever organisms is making you sick. He took a long bath but it didn't make him feel better. (For me and 3 of my children a nice hot bath is like medicine it makes us feel physically better.) He came out of his room and laid down on the couch and watched the movie "Chocolat" with me. After that he wanted chocolate but settled orange juice:-) Around 9:30 his temperature shot up to 103, that is when I take action. We dosed him up with advil and called the neighbor to help give him a blessing. Then we realised that he was having a party on Friday night. He felt terrible and he was so sad when we started to figure out what to do about the party.
I took him to the Urgent Care as soon as it opened, and he had strep throat. We were in a bind about the party, the invitations had gone out, but we didn't have numbers to call and postpone it. The Urgent Care people were very sympathetic and hooked us up. They had us get him on the antibiotics as soon as possible, they gave him a dose of something that would take down the swelling and redness within 2 hours. They said the germs pass through water. So if he coughed or sneezed, or we ate/drank after him, that would be how we got it. And let's face it he probably exposed all of his friends on Thursday. We had the party, but he had to wear a face mask. We also had a large bottle of hand sanitizer out for everybody.
This is his cake, a trusty Costco cake.
These are the snacks that 11 kids hardly put a dent in, maybe it had something to do with the 8 pizzas Mike and I brought in!
Steven and Chris worked really hard to make the very sick little brothers birthday party be a great one. We pulled all of the TV's together, 2 in the living room and 2 in the basement. They set it up so that they could play in teams. I don't understand how it all works.

OH MY! 16 AND strep throat?!! WOW.
Seriously, I think he was only like 2 or 3 when Zoie and I would babysit your kids?!! Time flies!
Looks like a great party to me!
How wonderful it is that you guys go to such great lengths to make sure your children have a responsible and still very fun life. I think about having a party for ANYBODY right now, and just can't imagine even thinking up how to do it. Nathan is so lucky. And that the bros were engaged in making things work for him is like family wonderland. So proud.
I won't tell you how old my baby is, or where he is, because you already know. But life gets very fast from here on out, Rene. Take care that you keep your hand on its heart.
