So one day I was talking to a lady in my ward she told me she had been reading these vampire books and ask if I had read them. I told her, no I didn't know anything about them. Weeks passed, I went to Amsterdam and had nothing to read. I got home, I was out shopping and saw the vampire books. I continued to see them so I decided to get the first one and try it. I really liked it so I made Mike go get me the other 2. I was in a fair amount of pain and couldn't do much else so I read. They were easy to read but I got through all 3 books in 2 weeks. That might not be impressive to most but I read slower and there are over 500 pages per book. The cool thing is the author is from the Phoenix area, so she describes things in the book and I know and can picture the places. Once I started reading them I found out everybody and their dog had read them. Even the surgeon I went to had been reading them. The bummer is she is working on the 4th book but it won't be finish for at least a year, what a wait.Saturday, October 13, 2007

I have a serious problem with these books. This girl is an LDS writer, but in her book, she paints a picture of a young woman who ignores her parents, sneaks behind their backs "for love," lets a man sleep in her bed with her repeatedly ("nothing happens" - like that's reality) - generally throws away everything she has been taught - again "for love" - and young women are reading this and watching adult women reading it and sighing - and these same young women are learning that you can go ahead and defy your parents if you have a really, really good reason (like love), and that you can sleep with a guy without having any consequences - and trust the guy to be more honorable and intelligent than you are - even if he's something evil, like a vampire.
A very, very bad and damaging message. I know I shouldn't write this when you've said you liked them - but this series of books scares me to death for the dumbing down of our girls' morals and expectations of reality.

Okay - "K" is crazy, and probably doesn't like Harry Potter because there are witches - what ever. Just because she is LDS doesn't mean she needs to write LDS. Besides, the B of M has stories in it that are 100 time worse. Whatever.
I just finished the first, and I am waiting for my friend to finish the 2nd so I can borrow it.
